ALIMENTARY CANAL: Digestive tract from Mouth to Anus
STRUCTURE OF ALIMENTARY CANAL:
Diagram showing Structure of Alimentary Canal
STRUCTURE OF ALIMENTARY CANAL:
STRUCTURE
|
FUNCTION
|
MOUTH
|
Mechanical digestion occurs
Large food is turned into a bolus to provide large surface area to volume ratio for salivary Amylase to break down Starch in food into Glucose
Saliva lubricates bolus for easy swallow
|
OESOPHAGUS
|
|
STOMACH
|
Peristalsis continues mechanical digestion, and enzymes begin chemical digestion
Hydrochloric acid maintains Optimum pH to increase rate of enzyme activity and metabolic reactions
|
SMALL INTESTINE
|
|
LARGE INTESTINE
|
|
PANCREAS
|
Synthesises pancreatic enzymes (Amylase, Protease, and Lipase)
Secretes pancreatic enzymes into the Stomach and Small intestine for digestion

Amazing!!
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing
ReplyDeletegoood
ReplyDeletethanks
ReplyDeleteHere is says " amylase can break starch down into glucose" i thought this does not occur in the mouth and the amalyse only breaks it down to maltose in the mouth - the maltose is then broken down by maltase to glucose but in the stomach
ReplyDeleteyeah that's true. They should change it
DeleteThere is lots of amylase in your saliva as well as your pancreas. there is alpha amylase and pancreatic amylase
DeleteI acc cba to learn these ahahahahha
ReplyDeleteMissing the gall bladder and the liver.
ReplyDeleteLiver - processes the blood that contains the nutrients, bile is made - which is one of the important roles in digesting fats.
The bodies chemical factory
Takes the raw materials absorbed by the small intestine and produces the chemicals that the body needs and detoxifies potentially harmful chemicals.
Gall bladder -
Storage sack for excess bile
Helps absorb fats in the diet
carries waste from the liver that cannot go through the kidney
cheers lad
DeleteThat's covered in spec statement 2.30 I think
